Mount Bromo is good to visit almost everyday. But the best season to visit is during summer between June to September. This is the best moment to visit as the sunrise is so wonderful from the east horizon.
The best city to start the tour to Mount Bromo and other destinations is from Surabaya. The distance from Surabaya to Bromo is about 120km and take about two and half hours to reach the nearest Bromo village named Cemoro Lawang. Mount Bromo is also possible to visit starting from Malang.
Temperature at Bromo is normally at about 11 to 12 degrees Celsius in July to August (Summer is cooler). Other months is about 16 to 18 degrees Celsius.

Trekking level at Bromo is easy or intermediate. No need any specific skill of hiking or climbing. Once you arrive at the jeep parking area and you can start by walk to the crater within 20 minutes to react the top of mount Bromo.
Yes it is good for children under 5 years old. But please take in account that visiting volcano with sulfur gas need preparing any stuff such as mask for kids and if the smoke is huge enough, should not climb and stay at the bottom for safety reason.
