Tumpak sewu is located at Pronojiwo village which is inside of Lumajang regency. It takes about 2 hours drive from Malang and 3 hours drive from Surabaya. along the way to tumpak sewu is something interesting to experience. There are widely any kind of plantation such as; sugar cane, rice terrace, cocoa trees and cloves trees along the way.
If you wish to visit this waterfall, here is the itinerary as follows;
Tour Itinerary
- Day 1 | Surabaya/Malang - Tumpak Sewu
- Departure time : 04.00 am
- Pick up from hotel / meeting point using minibus
- Explore Tumpak Sewu
- Temperature : Dry season will be at 27 degrees Celcius (July - August)
The driver will pick you up at your Hotel at 04.00 am and then drive to Lumajang Regency. It takes about 3 hours to get to the parking lot of Tumpak Sewu, the last part is a winding road through the mountains.
Once the car is parked, you will be hiking together with a local guide to Tumpak sewu waterfall. First is the view point, you will be welcomed by an impressive view of a massive semi circle waterfall with Semeru volcano as the background. Explore the waterfall by trekking down.
The road isn’t well paved and at the bamboo stairs, you might need some help to climb the 15 meters down to get near the waterfall. Nearby the waterfall, you will also visit a cave named “Goa Tetes or Drops Cave” in English. Once back in the car, we will have lunch at the warung or small food shop to refill your energy before we continue to drive back to Malang.
Time Table:
- 05.00 am: Depart from Malang / Surabaya
- 08.00 am: Arrive at Tumpak Sewu Waterfall
- 09.00 pm: Start trekking to the waterfall
- 12.00 pm: Finish Tumpak Sewu and heading back to Malang and tour finished
