Tumpak sewu is located at Pronojiwo village which is inside of Lumajang regency. It takes about 2 hours drive from Malang and 3 hours drive from Surabaya. along the way to tumpak sewu is something interesting to experience. There are widely any kind of plantation such as; sugar cane, rice terrace, cocoa trees and cloves trees along the way.

If you wish to visit this waterfall, here is the itinerary as follows;

Tour Itinerary

The driver will pick you up at your Hotel at 04.00 am and then drive to Lumajang Regency. It takes about 3 hours to get to the parking lot of Tumpak Sewu, the last part is a winding road through the mountains. 

Once the car is parked, you will be hiking together with a local guide to Tumpak sewu waterfall. First is the view point, you will be welcomed by an impressive view of a massive semi circle waterfall with Semeru volcano as the background. Explore the waterfall by trekking down.

The road isn’t well paved and at the bamboo stairs, you might need some help to climb the 15 meters down to get near the waterfall. 

Nearby the waterfall, you will also visit a cave named “Goa Tetes or Drops Cave” in English.  

Once back in the car, we will have lunch at the warung or small food shop to refill your energy before we continue to Kapas Biru Waterfall. 

It’s located 10 minutes drive from Tumpak Sewu Waterfall. Once you arrive at the entrance of Kapas Biru, you need to trek around 30 minutes one way. Air Terjun Kapas Biru means ‘blue cotton waterfall’ comes from the hazy blue color of the waterfall. Take your time to enjoy the atmosphere and when you are already satisfied, it’s time to go to Malang or Surabaya and the tour is finished.

Time Table:

  • 05.00 am: Depart from Malang / Surabaya
  • 08.00 am: Arrive at Tumpak Sewu Waterfall (Breakfast at Tumpak Sewu)
  • 09.00 pm: Start trekking to the waterfall
  • 12.00 pm : Finish Tumpak Sewu and Goa Tetes (Lunch at Tumpak Sewu Resto)
  • 01.00 pm : Depart to Kapas Biru Waterfall.
  • 03.00 pm : Heading back to Malang and tour finished
