You will be picked up by our staff at 10.30 am from your accommodation or Airport in Surabaya and then direct driving to Bondowoso.Bondowoso is the closest city from Ijen crater and you will have your accomodation in this city.
Along the way to Bondowoso, you will stop for a while to have lunch at Indonesian resto with good Indonesian cuisine. You can also take a short break as you want or taking a good picture if you see something interesting to capture – just ask your driver to stop. 🙂
You will arrive at your accommodation in Bondowoso around 02.30 pm. You can relax and enjoy your time while waiting for your first adventure in the night for Ijen crater tour.

Ijen Crater tour starts at 03.00 am from your accommodation and direct driving to Paltuding (ijen’s parking lot) about 1,5 hours. Prepare your stuff which are necessary to bring to hike at mount Ijen such as shoes, long sleeves, long pants, widproof jacket and headlamp. You can leave some of your stuff in the car.
You will get through the smooth track within 3km length to reach Ijen summit. The track is divided into; first 200m semi-flat, second 150m steep and the rest is more flat. Along the way you will find and walk with sulfur miner and local service for “ijen-taxi”. Sulfur miner starts working early morning from 03.00am and finish at 09.00am.
Heading back to the car about 8 am and then have a breakfast before leaving Ijen area and continued to Cemara lawang – Bromo. You will be driving to Cemara lawang Bromo village about 5-6 hours. Along the way to reach that village you will stop at an Indonesian restaurant to have lunch and short break. Arrive at Cemara lawang will be about 4 pm and it is a free program.

Morning call at 03.00 am and your Jeep driver is ready to wait for you for Bromo Sunrise tour. You will be standing on the sunrise spot named the Kingkong Hill which is 2600m above sea level and you will be there about 04.00am.
Before bromo sunrise, you may have a cup of coffee or tea in the small stall on this area as morning break and its included. The sun rises at 5.30 am, and when it comes, its time for you to fill your memory card with the awesome scenery of Bromo mountain range.
Mount Bromo is the lowest 2.329m above sea level. It can be marked that Mount Bromo is the smoky one. The next is Mount Batok and its not an active volcano. Other mountain is the highest named Semeru. It is the holy and the highest mountain in East Java which is the altitude is 3.676m above sea level.
After enjoy the Bromo sunrise, the jeep will bring you down to the Bromo Caldera (sea of sand). A long the way down you can ask the jeep driver to stop anywhere if you see a good spot to make a picture.
Your jeep will stop nearby Poten Temple and you start doing a smooth trekking to Bromo Crater. It takes about 20 minutes to reach the top and enjoy the view from the rim of mount Bromo. After trekking to Mount Bromo and then heading back to the car and have breakfast at the nearest restaurant at Bromo area. The tour is continued to Surabaya. You can also take optional tour to visit Madakaripura Waterfall and it will take about 3 hours activity on the waterfall.

1.What is the best season to visit Ijen Crater?
The best season to visit Ijen during dry season (April – October). During the wet season the intensity of rain will be higher until the end of March.
2. Where is Ijen located and how long will it take to reach?
Ijen Crater or as well known as Kawah Ijen located in the eastern part of Java island. It covered by 3 regencies (Bondowoso, Situbondo and Banyuwangi). Banyuwangi is the gate to enter Ijen Crater and it is accessible city. From Surabaya to Banyuwangi driving around 8 hrs. If you come from Bali it is possible to pick you up at Ketapang Harbor or your hotel in Bali (Extra charge involved).
3. What is the landscape look like?
Ijen Crater is formed by volcano complex (group of volcano) in East Java. On the top of Mount Ijen there is a huge acidic crater lake with turquoise color. It becomes one of the biggest acidic lake on earth. One of the highlight of Ijen is its blue flames that can only be seen at night/dark. The blue flames is actually ignited sulphuric gas, which emerges from the cracks at high pressure and temperature above 600 Degrees Celsius. You will also have the opportunity to see how the miner brave to breaks the sulphur rocks from the crater (source: https://www.nationalgeographic.com)
4. How difficult is it the hike to the crater rim?
It is about 3.2 km hike (1.5 hrs) from the trail-head at Paltuding to the crater rim. The track is divided into 4 parts. 800 meter medium steep, 750 meter hard steep, 650 meter medium steep, 800 meter flat.
5. Can I go down to the crater to see blue flames closer ?
Our guide will only be able to lead you up to the crater rim. To go down to the crater floor you will be leaded by local guide (ex-miner). This hike approximately about 45 mins through the steep rim and a small rock path. You should be aware with your step, just step on proper stone to prevent the stone fall-down. In early morning generally the stone is slippery.
6. What types of footwear are recommended for the hike?
We recommend wear any kind of footwear mountain gear. The shoes with a good grip is better than flat shoes. We are not recommend wear sandals.
7. Do I need a trekking stick for the hike?
As long as you body fit and you used to do exercise, hiking without stick is no problem. Use stick is good to keep your stability, and reducing strain on joints when going down hill.
8. Are there any toilets available along the hike?
There is no toilet along the way except at the National Park Office.
9. Do I need bring water?
Surely yes, doing trek for 3 km and through steep route you will be sweating and thirsty. Bring one or two bottles of mineral water for each is enough.
10. Can I camp at Ijen?
Yes, you can Camping at Ijen and we organize it.
1. When is the best season to visit Mount Bromo?
The best time to visit Mount Bromo is during the dry season from April to October. Rain intensity is higher during the wet season from November to March, but the National Park is still open during this period if tourist wants to visit Bromo.
2. Where is Bromo located and how long will it take to reach Bromo area?
Mount Bromo is located in the south from the flight service – Juanda Airport Surabaya and It is driving within 3 hours to reach Tengger area. If you come from Malang, Bromo is located in the east and driving for 3.5hrs.
3. How does the landscape look like?
Mount Bromo stand within massive Caldera and Tengger tribe in Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. There are 5 volcanoes within the Caldera; Mount Bromo (2.329 asl), Mount Batok (2.470 asl), Mount Widodaren (2.650 asl) Mount Wetangan (2.661 asl), Mount Kursi (2.581 asl). Those five volcanoes stands within a vast area of Caldera (sea of sand) or well known as Lautan Pasir.
Cemoro lawang is the village of Tengger people and it stand higher than Mount Bromo location. Mount Pananjakan is the view point located on the rim of Bromo Caldera. From view point you can also see the majestic eruption of Mount Semeru (3.676 asl) the highest mountain in Java located behind the Caldera or Bromo area.
4. Can I see the Milky Way at Mt. Bromo?
Sure, you can request for the optional milky way tour which begins around midnight from your hotel at Cemoro Lawang. You will lead to several view points such as Mentigen hill, Seruni point, Mount Pananjakan and Kingkong Hill. You should bring a suitable camera equipment such as tripod and lens for Milky Way photography.
To make it easier you can order camping package tour, in order you have a lot of time to see the Milky Way moment until sunrise. When the sun is shining, its time to go down to reach the base of Mount Bromo. The distance between View Point to Mount Bromo around 8 km. Tourist should better to take by Ojek (Motorcycle service) and its cost about 150k/person to reach Bromo base and drop you off to the lodge.
5. Can I hike instead of taking the jeep tour?
Yes, you can take the tour solely on foot than taking the jeep. Its program called Bromo Trekking. You start around midnight from your hotel at Cemoro Lawang. The guide will lead you hike through Seruni point and reach the Kingkong Hill. This trek takes about 2 hours climb the steep cliff of Mount Pananjakan (No require any climb special technique).
f you prefer to see the Bromo Crater, you should rent Ojek or Jeep. It caused the distance between view point to Mount Bromo about 8 km.
6. How much is the entrance ticket cost in Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park?
Weekdays : IDR 230.000
Weekend : IDR 330.000
7. How much is the horse ride at Mount Bromo?
It cost around 75K IDR for one way Parking lot – Bromo Upstairs base. For return trip it cost around 150K IDR. Note that the horse ride end close to the start of the stairs to climb Mount Bromo. Then you still have to climb for 250 upstairs to reach Mount Bromo rim.
You can take by walk like most visitors do (Walk 1.5 km). In term of price, do negotiate with the horseman about the price to get a best deal.
8. What is the temperature at Mount Bromo?
In the early morning the temperature can be as low as 3 – 7 Degrees Celsius. Temperature in the late noon will be around 15 – 20 Degrees Celsius. Commonly in the late afternoon to evening the temperature drop quickly when its windy or rainy.
9. What should I wear to Mount Bromo?
Wear jacket and add some layers are good for you when you visit Mount Bromo on April – October (dry season). Add some accessories like hat, shoes and gloves. If you don’t have those, you can buy it in nearest souvenir shop at Bromo, cost around 45-50K IDR.
10. Are the toilets available along the trek?
Yes, There is a basic toilet (in typical local squat – style) sometimes the toilet paper is not provided and you should bring by yourself. There are toilets at view point and the jeep parking lot. You can use toilet before start hiking Mount Bromo.
11. Can I camp at Bromo?
Sure you can do. We arrange and customize camping program. It is included dinner and breakfast along do a camping program. Once you do camping program, you can enjoy the milky way on the top of view point. You will get moment of sunset, milky way and sunrise from the campsite.
12. Can I visit Bromo during festival?
Yes, you can visit Bromo during festival. Avoid the silence day as Mount Bromo is Close. Silence day is the holy day for Tengger people which are mostly Hinduism.
13. Do I have to trek at Madakaripura Waterfall?
Yes, our vehicle will drop you off at parking lot and change into motorcycle ride. You will be leaded by a local guide to walk through the waterfall trek. From parking lot to the waterfall spot it takes about 1 km or 1 hour trekking.
14. Can I swim at Madakaripura waterfall?
Since earlier 2018 all visitors prohibited to swim to prevent falling stone from waterfall or sudden flood.
15. How much tips should I give to the tour guide and driver?
We suggest around IDR 150K per day to guide and driver for good service.
