Living with local in Buluagung village. Living in small house with a big welcome
living with local is our new program to connect traveler with local people. This tour is mostly interactive experience in urban and natural surroundings in Banyuwangi village.
One of the best reasons to visit East Java is to participate in the Banyuwangi Homestay program. Banyuwangi is located on the east-side of java island. Buluagung, a village as the best place to visit and enjoy local activities. Buluagung village is about 3 hours away from Banyuwangi city center. Your accommodation is with a host family in a traditional Buluagung House where you will enjoy home cooked food prepared for you by your Javanese host family.
Buluagung village is easy to access from Ijen tour and or Kalibaru tour. Once you join Bromo and ijen package it is possible for you to take optional tour living with local in Buluagung village.
Things to do..
Some of activities that tourist are able involved:
- Visit The Blue Swamp.
- Cooking class of traditional dishes.
- How to make a traditional cake.
- Joining locals at work (farming land: dragon fruit, orange, rice and corn/maize)
- Visit an elementary school and kindergarten, immerse yourself get fun with kids.
- Charities at an orphanage.
Take in account
Most tourist get confuse when they do interact with local along joining this tour because language, some experience a culture shock. Hereby the things that might be a bit different from western style and common.
- Local people used to give a greet and attention to ask question wherever you go, like “where are you going”. It is a part of caring each other in their way to respect.
- They used to right hand in offering and receiving something, just a little number of them who used left hand.
- Toilet: Generally local house toilet is squat-style.
- Shower: Most local people bathroom are not using shower tool but they use scoop to take water.
- Hygiene: You should not put your own standard of hygiene with them. They will take care of it.
- AC: No AC! They used to a fan to keep them feel comfort in summer.
