What is Ijen blue fire?
The site of Blue Flame lies on the crater floor with 2.386 m above sea level. Ijen blue flame is a Sulfur combusts on contact with air to create stunning blue lava-like rivers of light in the Kawah Ijen crater on the island of Java (source: www.nationalgeographic.com). Ijen mountain range look like
The Ijen mountain range is a group of stratovolcanoes located in East Java, Indonesia. It is enclosed by a larger caldera that measures around 20 kilometers. The stratovolcano known as Gunung Merapi is the highest point in that complex. A one-kilometer-wide, blue acid crater lake may be found in the Ijen crater, which is west of Gunung Merapi.
Sulfur-filled baskets are manually carried from the crater bottom to a labor-intensive sulfur mining plant next to the lake. The work is tedious and pays little. In order to receive their daily compensation, which ranges from $5.50 to $8.30 (about Rp 50,000 to Rp 75,000), laborers must carry their loads of sulfur chunks approximately three kilometers to the nearby Pultuding valley.
Numerous other post-caldera cones and craters can be found within the caldera and along its rim. The majority of the post-caldera cones are located along the southern margin of the caldera, which is traversed by an east/west trending zone.
The surface area and equivalent radius of the active crater at Kawah Ijen are 0.41 square kilometers and 361 meters (1,184 feet), respectively (0.16 sq mi). Its depth is 200 meters (660 feet), and its volume is 36 hectometres (29,000 acre-feet).

Going to Ijen from Banyuwangi is the most easiest way to do it. It caused Banyuwangi is one of the nearest regency to Ijen within only 44,7 km from the city center.
If you are coming from other areas like Malang and Surabaya, you can reach this city by train. Once you arrive at this city, try to find out the best hotels or homestay for you stay before doing Ijen tour in midnight.
On the other hand, if you come from Bali you can take a private or public transport to reach Gilimanuk Ferry port. Then, cross to the Bali strait to Ketapang Ferry port. You will sail about 2 hour until you arrive in Banyuwangi city. Once you arrive at Banyuwangi and then go direct to Paltuding for Ijen tour program. It takes about 1.5 hour drive to reach Paltuding (Ijen’s trekking basement).
The best time visit Mt. Ijen
The best season to visit Ijen during dry season (April – October). During the wet season the intensity of rain will be higher until the end of March.

The driver will pick you up at your hotel in Banyuwangi and then to Paltuding (ijen’s parking lot) about 1,5 hours. Arrive at parking area and prepare your stuff which are necessary to bring. Along the way up to ijen’s summit, you will find many local people who work as a sulfur miner and they start working early morning 03.00 a.m until 09.00 a.m.
As well as that around 02.30 am reach to summit of Ijen. Your guide will lead you down to the crater to see blue flame in a closer distance. Around 04.00 a.m heading back to reach the summit to catch sunrise. Meanwhile, leaving Paltuding is about 08.00 am and then further driving to drop off location in Banyuwangi or return to the hotel.
